John was appointed to his current position as Controller Exploration & Production at BP plc in May 2003. In this role he is responsible for ensuring that all business transactions and financial results for BP’s Exploration and Production business segment are recorded, reported and forecast with integrity, transparency and in a timely manner. John is also accountable for delivery of robust Management Information processes to support delivery of business performance and must ensure that the Business Segment has an effective system of financial control.
John is a member of the Exploration and Production Executive Leadership Team (SET) and leads an international team of Regional and Business Financial Controllers and Accountants, numbering more than 700. Prior to his current role John was the Head of UK and Business Taxes with responsibility for the management of all upstream oil and gas tax issues in the BP Group.
For the past ten years John has represented BP and the UK Oil industry on fiscal issues with memberships of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), The International Fiscal Association, the UK Oil Operators Association (UKOOA) and the UK Oil Industry Tax Committee (UKOITC).
