Giving you a clearer view of our charitable activity
Kidney Research UK depends on the support of the general public to generate income for funding our life saving research. It’s therefore important that any funds raised are spent in the most effective way to ensure that we can continue to fund research projects and cover our costs.
We are dependent on the donations of time and money from our supporters to help us work towards completing our mission of finding a cure for kidney disease.
This page explains what we spend in order to answer any questions about why we spend, what we do and where we spend it.
Our Research
Kidney Research UK has an ongoing commitment to research totalling £9.5 million, this currently funds around 90 ongoing research projects across the country. These projects last on average 2 to 3 years. Therefore we are constantly fundraising in order to cover our research commitments and making sure we raise enough to fund even more projects in years to come.
For the second year we increased our research and training grants, by £458,860 in this year – that means we spent a total of £2.9 million – and we intend to increase our grant awards by £650,000 in 2010/11 – that means we intend spending at least £3.5million in the current year.
Our commitment to raising awareness of kidney disease increased by 16.5% to over £1 million in 2009/10 and we increased our support to kidney patients with over £145,000 spent on patient grants.
Our fundraising
Last year, our generous supporters gave over £7.4million to our commitment to beating kidney disease, with investment income adding £261,000 to this total.
We invested in raising the number of our supporters to secure more funding for research in future years.
