Where We Spend Our Money

Giving you a clearer view of our charitable activity

Kidney Research UK depends on the support of the general public to generate income for funding our life saving research. It’s therefore important that any funds raised are spent in the most effective way to ensure that we can continue to fund research projects and cover our costs.

We are dependent on the donations of time and money from our supporters to help us work towards completing our mission of finding a cure for kidney disease.

This page explains what we spend in order to answer any questions about why we spend, what we do and where we spend it.

Our Research

Kidney Research UK has an ongoing commitment to research totalling £9.5 million, this currently funds around 90 ongoing research projects across the country.  These projects last on average 2 to 3 years.  Therefore we are constantly fundraising in order to cover our research commitments and making sure we raise enough to fund even more projects in years to come.

In 2008/09 we invested a further £3.8 million in our work.  The vast majority of this was in research, with the rest spent on education and patient welfare.  We have increased our funding to research and plan to invest a further £11.2 million over the next three years.

Our fundraising

In 2008/09 we raised £5.8 million from voluntary income which was raised through a number of different sources. Kidney Research UK has a professional fundraising team who are committed to raising as much money as they can to help people with chronic kidney disease.
