Christy Millar

In 2006 I was studying my degree at Liverpool University when I became unwell. My appendix burst and after many many complications my kidneys failed and I ended up on dialysis. For many months I was very unwell and would not be considered for transplant. In 2007 my fiancee Steve offered to donate, not actually expecting it to happen! Luckily our blood types are compatable, and although our tissue typing isn't great it can be controlled with drugs. In 2008 we decided to go back to University to do our Masters degrees and put off the transplant until now, so I could get stronger and have a year without any operations! The whole time I was at University I dialysed three times a week for 4 hours at a time (HD). Now I have passed my degree and am awaiting my transplant in a few weeks.

Wedding Excitement

26 Jul 2010

Less than four weeks until I get married now. It's something nice to look forward to for a change! I have sorted my dress so you cannot see my neckline access but unfortunately all of my other scars will be on show! It will be nice to be Stevens wife after all he has done and sacrificed for me through my illness. Perhaps I will add a kidney reference into the vows....any ideas?

Frustration

8 Jun 2010

You wouldn't believe it but again the hospital have booked me in for a fistula-plasty with asking me if I can do the date. And yet again they have chosen a date when I am not actually here. All it would take was a phonecall! How frustrating. On the up side, I am planning my wedding so it's keeping my mind off things. This however also has the down side of making me totally shattered! Getting home after midnight after dialysis is a killer. Yawn!

Activation Letter

23 Apr 2010

Got my activation letter today, so I am now on the transplant list. Rang to give them my contact numbers so now I get to play the waiting game along with the thousands of other people. I don't like the thought of waiting for somebody to die so I can have my life back, but to give organs after death is an amazing thing.
