Christy Millar

In 2006 I was studying my degree at Liverpool University when I became unwell. My appendix burst and after many many complications my kidneys failed and I ended up on dialysis. For many months I was very unwell and would not be considered for transplant. In 2007 my fiancee Steve offered to donate, not actually expecting it to happen! Luckily our blood types are compatable, and although our tissue typing isn't great it can be controlled with drugs. In 2008 we decided to go back to University to do our Masters degrees and put off the transplant until now, so I could get stronger and have a year without any operations! The whole time I was at University I dialysed three times a week for 4 hours at a time (HD). Now I have passed my degree and am awaiting my transplant in a few weeks.

Waiting...

11 Sep 2009

We are expecting the phonecall today to confirm the date for the op. We have been waiting for so long and I just know that the hospital will come up with a reason to delay it I should be optimistic but I am not. I just hope it's not too far off as we want to be well enough for graduation at the beginning of December. It's the waiting that is frustrating us more than anything, and I can't think about much else. We can't get our lives back until this is over!

A date!!

10 Sep 2009

We finally got a date. It's just pencilled in until the surgeon is back from his holiday, but I can't believe it's actually going to happen. I am terrified and excited at the same time. I can't remember what it's like not to be on dialysis. I wasn't going to tell anyone but couldn't help myself! I just hope all goes to plan!
